Twelve step drug rehab centers
Treatment for Drug Addiction or Alcoholism will
provide the addict with a life long program to follow
and is based on the twelve steps to recovery. The
twelve step drug rehab program will help the addict
maintain their sobriety and achieve a healthy
lifestyle. These programs help fight the tendency to
go back to the people places and things with providing
a anonymous support group and fellowship with other
people in recovery.
Most times it is best for the
addicted person to separate themselves from the
negative and destructive peer group that they have
been accustomed to, by entering into a residential
Drug and Alcohol Treatment center. These programs have
shown over time to be the most effective treatment for
addiction available today for helping people overcome
addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Most twelve step residential Drug
rehab centers respect all religious practices. There
are a few programs that specifically define the higher
power but most are non religious in nature.
Residential treatment programs
are not allowed to promote themselves as being a
twelve step program do inherently to the founding
nature of the twelve step program and alcohol anonymous
and narcotic anonymous. The traditions require that
any group that promotes themselves as a twelve step
program remains anonymous and their only promotion is
by way of example and how the members live their
lives.
The twelve step programs has adopted
a policy of cooperation with no affiliation to other
organizations concerned with the problem of addiction
to drugs or alcohol.
Most twelve step drug rehab
centers will try to move a client to a aftercare
program such as alcohol anonymous or narcotic anonymous
The 12 Steps
Step
1 - We
admitted we were powerless over our addiction that
our lives had become unmanageable.
Step
2 - Came
to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could
restore us to sanity
Step
3 - Made
a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the
care of God as we understood God
Step
4 - Made
a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves
Step
5 - Admitted
to God, to ourselves and to another human being the
exact nature of our wrongs
Step
6 - Were
entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of
character
Step
7 - Humbly
asked God to remove our shortcomings
Step
8 - Made
a list of all persons we had harmed, and became
willing to make amends to them all
Step
9 - Made
direct amends to such people wherever possible, except
when to do so would injure them or others
Step
10 - Continued
to take personal inventory and when we were wrong
promptly admitted it
Step
11 - Sought
through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious
contact with God as we understood God, praying only
for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to
carry that out
Step
12 - Having
had a spiritual awakening as the result of these
steps, we tried to carry this message to other
addicts, and to practice these principles in all our
affairs
