Drug addiction follows a cycle like this. The life cycle of addiction begins with a problem, discomfort or some form of emotional or physical pain a person is experiencing. They find this very difficult to deal with. We start off
with an individual who, like most people, is basically good. They person encounters a problem or discomfort that they do not know how
to resolve or confront. This could include problems such as; difficulty "fitting in" as a child or teenager, anxiety due to peer pressure or work
expectations, identity problems or divorce as an adult. It can also include physical discomfort,
such as injury or chronic pain. This person encounters a problem or discomfort that they do not know how to resolve or confront.
The Addiction Progresses
Analogous to an adolescent child in their first love affair, the use of drugs or alcohol becomes obsessive. The addicted person is trapped.
Whatever the problem he was initially trying to solve by using drugs or alcohol fades from memory. At this point all they can think is getting and using drugs. The addict looses the ability to control their usage and disregards the horrible consequences of their actions.
The Cycle of Quitting, Withdrawal, Craving and Relapse
When the addict initially tries to quit, cells in the brain that have become use to the large amounts of these metabolites are now forced to deal with much decreased amounts. Even as withdrawal symptoms subside the brain demands that the addict give it more of this drug. This is called a drug craving. A craving is an extremely powerful urge to create "reasons" why they should start using drugs or start drinking again. The addicted person is now caught in an endless cycle of trying to quit, craving, relapse and
the fear of withdrawal. But, because deposits of drug or alcohol metabolites release back into the bloodstream from fatty tissues for years, craving and relapse become a cause for concern. Left unhanded the presence of metabolites even in microscopic amount can cause the brain to react as if the addict has again actually taken the drug and can set up craving and relapse even after years of sobriety.
Addicts Cannot Stop Using Drugs For Two Reasons
1: Mental and physical cravings caused by drug residues which remain in the body.
2: The Biochemical Personality caused by drugs and the lifestyle the person
adopts to get them.
How Do You Get An Addict To Agree To Treatment
Usually the addict will need some sort of negative reinforcement to agree that they need help: ie; loss of job, house, divorce, intervention,
homelessness. The normal school of thought is that they need to hit rock bottom but this can be different for everyone. For some people the bottom is death. here at Drug Rehabilitation Services do not subscribe to this school of thought. We at Drug Rehabilitation Services believe that the bottom can be raised to the individual so as to make them feel that they are already there. Call us at 1-877-295-7660 and we can discuss how to help with this process.
When Do you give Up On An Addict
Many addicts have gone through treatment in some form or another. The addict is told that they didn't work the program and this is why they have
relapsed. The reason that an addict relapses is the program didn't work for them. There are a few
programs that offer a "peace of mind guarantee" this is when a person completes the program and within the first six months relapses the person can go back to the facility and pay room and board only. There are a few facilities that take the responsibility for missing something on their program and take them back at little or no cost. These programs often times have a work exchange option that allows the addict to stay for 6 months after completing the program and receive intensive outpatient services in exchange for helping out in the facility. The person also receives a nominal pay check while participating in this part of the program.
When Is Treatment No Longer An Option
Any person can be rehabilitated and any addict can overcome an addiction. When one treatment methodology has failed then one should look at other options. This is where we can help. All of our counselors are educated in many different types of treatment methodologies and treatment models. We can assist you in the choosing of the right treatment facility and treatment model that will help you or someone that you love achieve a life without the need of drugs or alcohol.

Treatment options
There are as many different treatment options as there are different types of drug rehabilitation centers. The average 28 day program has the success rate of about 10-25% this is a failure rate of 75-90%. The reason for this is that the person that is going through treatment has just begun to think clearly and then they are sent on their way on their own to figure out the whole reason why they had begun to self medicate in the first place.
There are programs that have high success rates and the reason for this is that they treat all aspects of addiction; the bio-physical and the mental aspect of addiction. The length of stay is usually 90-180 days and this is based on completion of the program not the number of days the person is there. This type of program takes as long as it takes and for each person this is different. All people, that are addicted, will have different cases and need special help in certain areas of their life in
order to achieve sobriety.
